OUR OPTOMETRISTS

Tina Kelly, OD

Dr. Tina Kelly (formerly known as Dr. Tina Vu) has been helping Northern Virginians see better for over ten years.  She has been running her own clinic for the past decade and is skilled in all areas of optometry. She specializes in management and treatment of dry eyes and glaucoma, and hard to fit contact lens cases for keratoconus, and irregular and post-surgical corneas. Dr. Kelly is devoted to providing excellent eye care for children and adult, especially those with amblyopia (lazy eye)macular degeneration, diabetes, high blood pressure and other diseases that cause vision or eye problems. She also treats acute eye diseases such as conjunctivitis (pink eye), hordeolum (stye), eye injury, corneal abrasion, and foreign body removal.  She co-manages surgeries for cataract and LASIK with ophthalmologists in the Northern Virginia area.

 

She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Dallas in 2003 and her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston, College of Optometry in 2007. She completed her optometry clinical training at the University Eye Institute in Houston, TX, the Veterans Affairs Hospital Eye Clinic in Albuquerque, NM and the Naval Health Clinic in Quantico, VA. Dr. Kelly continues to attend lectures and strives to always keep up-to-date on the newest and best treatments and technology to care for her patients.

 

Dr. Kelly moved to the Washington DC metro area from Dallas, TX after completing her training. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her curious toddler and husband, taking pictures with her DSLR camera, playing scrabble, scuba diving and traveling.

Blake Schermer, OD

Dr. Blake Schermer is an Optometrist who specializes in myopia control, dry eye treatment, glaucoma management, and ocular nutrition. His patients and colleagues know him for his thoroughness and attention to detail. Dr. Schermer has over eight years of experience with caring for children and adult with vision problems and eye diseases, along with difficult contact lens cases and co-management of refractive (LASIK) surgery as well as cataract surgery.

 

Dr. Schermer grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio and was inspired to pursue optometry in high school by his hometown optometrist. He started his journey to becoming an optometrist at Ohio University, where he graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science in Biological Sciences. He continued his education at the Ohio State University College of Optometry, completing his Doctor of Optometry degree in 2010. Dr. Schermer completed internships at the Ohio State Optometry Services clinic, Central Ohio Eyecare, Southern Arizona VA Hospital Center, and Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons.

 

In 2013, he relocated and started practicing in Bethesda and Washington, DC. He is excited to start his new journey at Nova Eye Care Center and caring for patients in Alexandria and the northern Virginia area. When outside the clinic, Dr. Schermer enjoys art museums, live music, community festivals, college football, cooking from scratch, and entertaining friends. He is dedicated to helping patients see better and treating everyone like family.

 

Jennifer Lee, OD

Dr. Jennifer Lee is a primary care optometrist who specializes in managing myopia control, dry eyes, Orthokeratology (OrhtoK) contact lens fitting, and treating eye diseases such as dry eyes, glaucoma, conjunctivitis (pink eye). She also has extensive training and experience in fitting contact lenses for astigmatism, multifocal and hard to fit lenses; managing cataracts, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye diseases.

 

She completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, a master’s degree at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a Doctor of Optometry degree at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University.  Her training includes externships at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center, low vision training at Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center, and contact lens/primary care training at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia. She is an active member of the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control as well as the state and national optometric associations. 

 

Dr. Lee was born and raised in Winslow, Arizona, which was made famous by the song "Take It Easy" by The Eagles. She moved to the Northern Virginia area in 2015 after completing her training and graduating from optometry school. During her free time she enjoys running, hiking, traveling, teaching her rescue border collie new tricks, and spending time with friends and family. She is excited and is committed to providing the best eye and vision care for the patients in Alexandria and Northern Virginia.
